Global Poker Awards return for the second time

By Saina Fatima

April 2019 held the first-ever Global Poker Awards where the finest poker players and stakeholders were addressed. Mediarex Sports and Entertainment who also owns Global Poker Index (GPI) has collaborated with Poker Central and PokerStars for the second edition. The next award ceremony is scheduled to be held on March 6, 2020, which will be hosted at the PokerGO Studio at ARIA Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.

Last time, 19 award categories were made and this time the number has reached 20. The organizers are hoping it to be better than before. They have also included a new category named ‘Players Choice Award for Best All-Round Poker Player’ where players in GPI300 can vote for the winner.

GPI has already hosted two poker awards ceremonies in the past in the name of American Poker Awards (APA) and the European Poker Awards (EPA). The new Global Poker Awards is a result of a merger between the former two annual awards. You can see the live broadcast at Poker Central.

The selection and nomination criteria of winners of the 2020 awards will be determined on the basis voting process where a panel of experts from each category will decide. Poker fans can also decide who takes the prize home.

The Global Poker Index team is hard at work on this expanded Global Poker Awards event, filled with new awards and experiences for attendees and the viewing audience.” GPI president Eric Danis said in the 2020 edition. Danis added, “We’re delighted that the Global Poker Awards have become a repeating annual event that is growing in scope and significance among the poker industry.” He added. The announcement was made on Twitter.
